5 helpful hints when buying a dog

1. Your home

One of the main factors to consider when choosing the right dog breed for you is your home environment. All homes will suit a dog but you wouldn’t house a Great Dane in a one bedroom bedsit. Take into account the size of your home and that will help determine the size of the dog you should look for.

2. Amount of exercise

All dogs love exercise but some breeds need more than other breeds for example and Border Collie would need at least one hours walking a day as well as mental stimulation. Other breeds such at retired Greyhounds wouldn’t need that amount, but maybe around thirty minutes a day.

3. Money

Most lifestyles these days come down to money. One of the main factors when choosing to own an animal is the cost. You can own a dog for around fifteen years and you will have to cover the cost for all that time.

Part of the payments you will have to cover is the price of dog food, Pet insurance, general pet supplies such as poop bags, dog collars and leads.

4. Food

Food is the essential part to caring for a dog. A healthy pet needs clean water, daily feeds and of course exercise. Choosing the right dog food for your dog again depends on the breed of the dog. If you choose to buy a puppy then you will have to look at the puppy and junior dog food ranges to start with, after that you would change to adult food and then at a later stage you would change to senior dog food. A great selection of dog food for all life stages can be found at Swell Pets.co.uk.

5. Holidays

You will have to decide when buying your dog on the type of holidays you can take. If you don’t want to put your dog into kennels then maybe a caravan, cottage or camping holiday would be suitable.  If you are happy to leave your dog in kennels then make sure you find one that suits your needs, and of course the need of your dogs.
